Twitter has become a major player in the social networking arena. In fact, Twitter has become a tool in many areas that you may not have even thought about.

Education

Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a college in China, used Twitter with native Chinese students to help them learn communicative and cultural competence. The University of Vienna, Austria, used Twitter as an evaluation platform for student ratings. The University of Texas at Dallas incorporated Twitter into the classroom setting of History courses with large groups of students. And, according to telegraph.co.uk, Twitter has been put on the new primary school curriculum.

Emergencies

According to a research report in ‘New Scientist,’ blogs, maps, photo sites and instant messaging systems like Twitter do a better job of getting information out during emergencies than either the government or traditional news media. During the California wildfires in 2007, people kept their neighbours informed of their whereabouts using Twitter. The American Red Cross started using Twitter to exchange minute-by-minute updates about local disasters. In 2008 during the Mumbai attacks, reports on Twitter exceeded 16 tweets every second. The Victorian Country Fire Authority in Australia used Twitter to send out updates and regular reports regarding the February, 2009 brushfires.

Campaigning

In 2008, Twitter was used in the U.S. presidential campaign. Democratic Party nominee Barack Obama used it to generate publicity. In 2009, the Republican Party in Connecticut set up 33 fake Twitter accounts in the names of the Democratic Party members of state legislature. They used them to send out fake tweets in the names of the Democrats. The Nader-Gonzalez campaign used Twitter to send out updates to its ballot access teams in real time.

Legal Proceedings

In April, 2009, the first criminal prosecution arising from Twitter posts was started. Daniel Knight Hayden was arrested by the FBI who was accused of sending threatening tweets in regards to his plan to attend a Tea Party protest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In July, 2009, the Horizon Realty Group sued a former tenant, Amanda Bonnen, for libel based on tweets sent to her friends. Horizon sued for $50,000 but eventually the case was dismissed.

These are just a few of the current uses for the website Twitter. As Twitter continues to grow across the globe, the list of uses will also continue to grow as new innovative ways to use the technology are discovered.

Internet Marketing – A New Twist

I’ve got some experience in the internet marketing world and there are a few things that helped my business grow and expand. The first thing was my ability to network with others. I started going to seminars. I’ve been to about 200 but I stopped going to them around 2001 or 2002. I’d attend a few but was out of it. Then a few years ago I started going to them again. I can’t tell you how many people you can meet going to these functions.

I had someone call me that I met at a seminar and he has a list of about 50,000 people. He wants to become my affiliate and push the products that I sell. I didn’t even remember him. But as we talked I asked him how he found out about me and he said he met me at a seminar. Networking at seminars is huge. Most people ask me how in the world you can get someone to become your affiliate.

The most important things are that that a person has to like you. You have to be honest, straight forward and very creative. The conversation between you and the person has to be good. The numbers have to work. But I can’t over emphasis that they have to like you.

If someone likes you they are more willing to do something for you. People usually like the people that they network with. Those that want to get out there and share. These are important things for me and I can’t stress how good it was to get back out and socialize in these networks at these seminars. If you look you can find some really good seminars.

There are some bad internet marketing seminars where you have to pay $500 to $1000 but even if it is bad, look at what they are selling. What are people doing? Watch them at what they are selling. Look at their offer. Check out to see how they are collecting the cash from other people. All these things are important.

Another thing I wanted to bring up is that you have to learn to love your spam. Learn to like those pop up banners that you see. You can learn a lot from just reading spam. Look at how the offer is put together and copy the same thing that they are doing. This is aggressive cleverness.

Take some time and look at the competition and learn how to talk to other people. I have some people in my network that I can rattle off a sales letter and get some good feedback from them. When it comes time to selling my product these people want to be my affiliate and sell the stuff I’m selling to their list.

So to summarize, learn to love to go to seminars and study your competition. Make these points all apart of your internet marketing plan.

Web 2.0 Babble

The seeming collapse of cyberspace in 2001 became a point upon which web trends turned. People predicted the end of the cyber era. However, this is all part of a vicious technological cycle of peak trends and shakeouts. It is at this point, that real success is measured. And the development of Web 2.0 is just that. The concept began with the premise that contrary to speculations of web-crashing, the Web or the Internet is more promising and needed than ever. The steady rate of development, and coming out of new sites and programs are taken as signs of a stronger Web space. This was taken into consideration by MediaLive International and the O’Reily Team in developing the concept of Web 2.0. However, the passing years have tangled the meaning of the concept. Disagreements about its meaning added to the general mayhem. What exactly is Web 2.0, and how does it differ from the Internet of the past (Web 1.0)?

Their main difference is that Web 2.0 strives to make the web space more personalized and interactive. Whereas Web 1.0 uses static HTML, the 2.0 version offers blog publishing which is highly interactive and dynamic. Web 2. 0 also tries to un-complicate the web experience so even newbies won’t feel intimidated by the many links and complicated web designs. As a result, Web 2.0 prioritizes navigability and simplicity in website design. Moreover, sites can be managed by several authors rather than an exclusive group of Internet professionals.

Personal sites are also out of Web 2.0 together with the guessing game that comes with domain names. Personal blogs wherein the owner can post whatever interests him is the “in” thing. Plus, blog readers can comment on whatever the writer wrote, thus, the experience is kept active and dynamic. In addition, SEOs also make it easy to find information and websites. With Web 2.0, cyberspace can live up to its tag as an info superhighway.Other innovations on Web 2.0 version are the use of syndication and folksonomy. With this new applications, directories are no longer needed. Plus, new infoware are in constant beta. Software are easily available in the Internet rather than sold as separate items. Web 2.0 is easier on the user as compared to the older version. This makes Web 2.0 a stronger, steadier, and wider space wherein everyone can find a niche for himself.

Social Marketing – How to Win in 2010 With These 5 Social Media Marketing Tools (I Use These Daily)

Social Marketing is here to stay, and will become even more important in 2010. Here are 5 Social Media Marketing sites that I use daily that will help you to “win in 2010.” You need to get a presence on all 5 of these now if you have not already done so.

In a minute I’m going to tell you a huge benefit of having a regular presence on all 5 of these sites, but first I’m going to share with you a few of the advantages of each site.

Twitter – Build a list on Twitter that is more responsive than your email list. Yes, you heard that right, more responsive than your email list. There are at least 2 reasons for this: 1) You bypass the spam filters of email programs and 2) you get immediate, as in within seconds, feedback on what you are offering, asking or saying. Do you get the power of that? Bypassing the spam filters and getting immediate feedback, just in case you missed it.

Facebook - Many online experts predict that a Facebook Fan Page will replace the standard email list by 2012. Think of it this way – if you sent 3 – 5 emails a day to your list, you would get unsubscribes in droves, right? But if you post 3 – 5 updates a day to your Facebook Fan Page you would not only get unsubscribes, your list would grow as your updates are seen by others in the stream of your fans.

YouTube – At the time of this writing, YouTube is getting twice the traffic of Google. Create a few slides in PowerPoint, use a Screen Capture tool like Camtasia, and talk about the information on the slides, upload it to YouTube and Boom! you’ve got a short little video featuring you and your expertise.

Your Blog – I think the coolest thing about a Blog is the ability to interact with those in your community. When you invite and encourage comments on your blog, you are inviting your tribe to share in the conversation. This builds so much “know, like and trust” and people do business with those they know like and trust.

EzineArticles – Not typically thought of as a Social Marketing tool, but it always has been for me. Upload a piece of your content and it can get syndicated all over the Internet. Plus you can invite your readers to comment on your articles, thus creating further conversation and connection.

Now here’s the really good news. Since you don’t have the budget of a Google or Yahoo, to plaster your name all over the Internet, it’s good that you don’t have to be found all over the internet. You just need to be found all over the internet in your niche, and when you have a regular presence on these 5 sites you will.
